G. Douglas Talbott, M.D., FASAM, FACP

Dr. Talbott is the founder and original Medical Director, now Emeritus, of the Talbott Recovery. He is a graduate of Yale University and received his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Although Dr. Talbott began his career as a cardiologist, for the past forty years he has specialized in the treatment and care of individuals with alcohol and other drug dependencies. Dr. Talbott created the very first treatment program specifically designed to meet the treatment requirements of physicians suffering from addiction. Dr. Talbott has been the guiding force helping Talbott Recovery to establish a national reputation as the treatment center of choice for addicted and impaired healthcare professionals. During these critical early years in the addiction treatment field, Dr. Talbott was consistently a leader in the development of treatment methods such as Talbott Recovery Mirror Image Program, community living, extended therapeutic leaves (ETL's) and Talbott Recovery Return Visit Program.

Dr. Talbott founded and became Director of the Cox Heart Institute, a nationally recognized cardiac research institute, and also worked with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to select suitable crew for the Mercury, Apollo and Gemini Space Programs. He formerly held the following positions: President of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), Vice President and USA Representative of the International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM), Clinical Professor of Family Practice at Morehouse School of Medicine, Adjunct Professor of Pharmacology at Mercer University School of Pharmacy, and medical consultant to the Atlanta Braves and National Basketball Association.

Today Dr. Talbott is an addiction treatment icon and remains a nationally recognized authority on alcoholism and other drug addictions. He has authored over 100 papers and articles, has published numerous books, appeared on numerous television programs and talk shows, and has lectured and conducted workshops throughout the United States and Canada.
